Project Description

LUMEN GENESIS is an interactive system and a speculative ecosystem, asking what “nature” might mean when its origins are entirely digital. The project imagines a world where image data behaves like nature. In this system, the brightness patterns inside any uploaded photograph are reinterpreted as energy fields, forming a “digital soil” from which four types of synthetic organisms emerge. Through gesture-based interaction, viewers generate wind, influence growth, and observe how these species respond as if they were alive. It reverses our usual relationship between nature and data: instead of collecting data from the world, here data reorganizes into a new world. What begins as a simple image becomes a self-generating ecology that grows, adapts, and records itself through field notes and specimen cards.
