Project Description

Each green dot is a sign of hope - a place where hands meet the earth. The GreenThumb Gardens dataset shows more than 550 community gardens in New York City. I chose this data because I think a garden is like the heart of a neighborhood. It gives people a place to breathe, rest, and feel calm in a fast and noisy city. A garden is not only about plants and trees. It is also about people, emotions, and small daily moments that bring life to a community. When people work together to grow flowers or vegetables, they share stories and build trust. These gardens connect people of different ages and cultures, so they create a feeling of care and togetherness. The data was collected by GreenThumb and shared through NYC Open Data. It includes information such as where each garden is, who takes care of it, and how people can visit or join. This helps us see how green spaces are spread across the city and which areas have fewer of them. It also shows how local groups play an important role in keeping these spaces alive. By studying and visualizing this dataset, I want to explore how small green areas can change the mood of a place and the people who live there. I believe every garden adds a bit of peace to the city, just like a heartbeat that keeps it alive.
