Project Description
In the stark stillness of deep winter, the world seems to pause. Life loses its color, and the environment becomes quiet, brittle, and restrained. For many people, this external barrenness reflects an internal state: emotions feel frozen, thoughts feel isolated, and the mind enters a period of dormancy. This interactive installation is born from that condition. It functions as a sensory sanctuary that challenges winter’s silence and seeks to awaken a dormant life force through touch, sound, and generative visuals. At the center of the installation is a collection of fallen leaves. At first glance, they appear lifeless—dry remnants of a season that has passed. Yet the work invites viewers to move beyond observation and become participants. Touch sensors are hidden beneath the leaves, and when a viewer gently presses or brushes them, the silence breaks. Each interaction triggers a soundscape of renewal: melting streams, returning birds, and the soft movement of leaves in a warm breeze. These sounds of spring form a temporal loop, layering hope and regeneration onto the stillness of winter. The soundscape directly shapes a projected, sound-reactive digital interface. At rest, the screen displays a restless field of sharp orange forms, symbolizing anxiety, mental noise, and emotional tension often heightened during winter isolation. Through real-time audio analysis, the system responds to the natural sounds activated by touch. As birdsong and flowing water enter the space, the visuals begin to transform. The jagged orange patterns soften, gradually shifting into deep, calming greens. This transition visualizes a psychological change—from tension to ease. The screen becomes a digital reflection of the viewer’s inner state, suggesting that contact with nature, even in a mediated form, has the power to dissolve anxiety and restore emotional balance.
