Project Description

The call to action centers on Bulldogs experiencing BOAS, exposing the tension between desire, design, and consequence. The French Bulldog, now one of New York City’s most adored breeds, embodies this contradiction — a dog bred to suffer for the sake of appearance. In a city obsessed with image and reinvention, it feels fitting to question what our choices reveal, and what we’re willing to ignore for the sake of what looks good. Across New York, each neighborhood tells its own story through the dogs people choose. The Financial District favors the French Bulldog — small, expensive, and status-driven — while Park Slope and Riverdale echo the same taste. The Upper East Side leans toward Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Murray Hill toward Golden Retrievers, and the Upper West Side and New Dorp toward Labradors. These patterns aren’t random; they mirror each area’s identity, hinting at class, culture, and aspiration. It’s ironic, but maybe that’s the beauty of it — even our pets become reflections of the systems that shape us.
