Project Description

The project investigates the metaphor A MISSED CONNECTION IS A GHOST, utilizing an archive of "Missed Connections" posts to create an interactive digital map upon which these fleeting narratives haunt their real-world locations as "ghosts." These "ghosts" are made tangible through an interactive "cut" mechanic exploring memory, fragility, and loss. This is a mechanic that allows a user to sever the connection's "tether," permanently "releasing" the ghostly memory from its location. The act of observation itself becomes the "cut," forcing the user to read quickly before the text fades away forever. This creates a visualization of the invisible layers in human longing, rendering the city a haunted space of near-misses. The meaning behind the "cut" is left to the user to interpret. In this way, the project powerfully explores the fragility of memory and the irreversibility of a moment once passed.
