Project Description
The project 'NENE' (Mother in Pulaar) is a creative exploration inspired by a poem written by my older sister, Aissatou. The poem captures a deep, unrequited conversation—a yearning filled with wonder and curiosity about my mother's inner world and unspoken history. The main theme is the fundamental contrast between distance and intimacy and the hunger to know more. The visual language translates this tension through the pulsating flower motif, realized in p5.js. The visualization features two characters: a vibrant flower that embodies Intimacy and Wonder, and a subdued (grey) flower that symbolizes Distance and the persistent unanswered questions posed by the poem. Supporting artifacts anchor this narrative in personal history. They include archival photos of my mother from her younger years to evoke a sense of nostalgia and the desire to uncover her stories, and a symbolic envelope to represent the theme of the unanswered letter.
