Audience interaction with City of Frames

Project Description

The City of Frames is an interactive project that reimagines scrolling as a system that structures time, attention, and behavior. In this speculative city, time is not measured in seconds but in frames, and stillness is treated as inefficiency. Scrolling becomes a fundamental action that sustains the city’s rhythm and flow. The project consists of two connected displays. The first is an interactive, scroll-based book where users read and navigate content through continuous scrolling. Rather than focusing on what is read, the system captures how users scroll—their speed, rhythm, pauses, and repetitions. These gestures function as data inputs rather than neutral navigation. The second display visualizes these scrolling interactions in real time. Scroll gestures are translated into time-based graphic traces, such as timestamps and flowing visual streams, revealing how attention is accumulated, accelerated, or dispersed. The content itself disappears, leaving behind only the record of interaction. By separating interaction from representation, The City of Frames makes visible the often-invisible mechanics of digital attention. The project invites viewers to reflect on scrolling not as a passive interface behavior, but as an active process that consumes time and shapes perception.
